Find Your Sofa Dimensions

First thing’s first, make a note of the dimensions of your desired Sofa or Chair, write down the Height (H), Width (W) and Depth (D) on a piece of paper, so you can reference them as you measure.

These can be found on the relevant product page under the image carousel, or on our product cards if you’ve picked one up in store. Once you’ve jotted these numbers down, dig out the measuring tape, it’s time to map out your Sofa’s journey into your home.

Measure Your Sofa’s New Home

It’s important that your dream Sofa will fit into its new home, so the first place you should head to is the spot you are envisioning for your new Sofa.

Measure the Width (W) and Depth (D) of the space and mark out the area with masking tape to see how much room it will occupy. This will help to ensure no doorways or walkways will be affected. You may even discover you have extra space and can size up!

Formulate a Game Plan

Brilliant! Your new Sofa will fit in its desired spot! Now it’s time for a walkthrough of your home, mapping out your game plan. Start from where the delivery will be dropped off, whether this is the front of your house or outside your apartment building.

From here you’ll want to make note of every doorway, stairway, lift and obstacle that your Sofa will meet on its way to the living room. Consider obstacles that could effect your measurements such as radiators, shelves, skirting boards and lighting.

Measure Your Doorways

Measure the Height (H) and Width (W) of each doorway your Sofa will pass through, taking the door into account. Ensure the Width of your doorway is wider than the Depth of the Sofa, allowing for space either side so you can glide through seamlessly.

Measure Your Hallways

Measure the Width (W) of your hallway at its narrowest point, considering any radiators, skirting boards, shelves, and any other obstacles in the space. Next, if you need to turn your Sofa into a room, you’ll need to measure the distance between the entrance to your chosen room and the hallway wall opposite.

This measurement needs to be greater than the Height (H) of your Sofa, to ensure you will have enough space to manoeuvre your Sofa into its desired room. If you need to turn a hallway corner, measure the space at its narrowest point to ensure it is larger than the Height (H) of your Sofa.

Getting Your Sofa Upstairs

Do you live in an apartment building? Maybe your living room is upstairs? Measure each stairway at its narrowest point, taking note of any angles which could prove tricky. Remember to take into account any handrails, and banisters.

Need to lift your Sofa over the banister? Measure the distance between the top of the banister and the Ceiling, ensure this space is greater than the Depth (D) of your Sofa.

Using a Lift

If you’re planning to utilise a lift, you may want to take note of the weight limit in the lift, as well as the Height (H), Width (W) and Depth (D) of the interior. Make sure also to measure the Width of the lift entrance to ensure it is greater than the Depth of the Sofa.

It is important to ensure that you can manoeuvre the Sofa both in and out of the lift, use our hallway measuring tips to check the space outside the lift on your intended floor.
