The Collins & Hayes story began in 1870. It has always been in our DNA to deliver enduring comfort and understated style to all living rooms. Some things never change, and that’s because they don’t need to.

As we mark 150 years we wanted to create a collection that encapsulated our story, and that’s when we met Jo Cowlin.

Jo Cowlin’s father was the owner of an original Collins & Hayes chair, named the Beagle which he purchased in the 1960s. The chair has been with the family for over 60 years, being used and loved by generations, and lovingly referred to as ‘Daddy’s thinking chair’.

Jo contacted us seeking help on how to put the sparkle back into her fathers much-loved chair. The team at Collins & Hayes HQ fell in love with the charm and history of the Beagle and pulled together a team of our best in-house designers to reupholster the chair bringing it back to its original form. Whilst on this journey, the team took inspiration from this to construct a new chair, something we now know as Banks. Banks celebrates our 150th year and boasts style and simplicity.

We reunited Jo with her father’s chair at the January Furniture Show 2020. The Beagle proudly took centre stage at the show, alongside our new addition, Banks. This reunion was heart-felt and something the team at Collins & Hayes won’t forget. In Jo’s words “I was completely overwhelmed by the transformation of Dad’s chair, it’s absolutely beautiful. I was thrilled it was the centrepiece of your display. It’s difficult to express the extent of my gratitude but I really do hope you understand how much it meant to me. I will be forever grateful for your kindness, this chair is now a fitting tribute to my Dad”.

The Banks Chair will launch April 2020
