Living a more sustainable life is very important to us here at Collins & Hayes, we believe in making sustainably sourced, quality products that will help reduce our carbon footprint. April 22nd is Earth Day, the campaign was set up to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement around the world.
This year’s theme is ‘Restore Our Earth’, urging us to think about how we can reduce our impact on the planet and help repair eco systems. Here are our top tips on how to do this at home.
Reduce & Recycle
Single use plastics have a huge impact on our environment, the UK alone uses 275,000 tonnes of plastic every year, with the average family throwing 40kg of that away every year.
Cutting down on our usage is very simple – think reusable shopping bags, fresh fruit & veg v.s packaged goods, a reusable water bottle and coffee cup – the list is endless!
Shop at your local independent food retailers, by doing this you will know exactly where your food has come from which will significantly reduce food miles. Also, you will be supporting small businesses which is a win, win!
Capsule wardrobes are a great way to cut down on clothing waste. Try and pick pieces that cohesively go together, last a long time, and won’t get thrown away once it goes out of fashion – think staple pieces!
The same idea applies to furniture, pieces that are made of quality materials will have long life span and stand the test of time. The fabrics they are made with also have a big impact on our environment. By choosing fabrics that are made from regenerated yarns you know that they have been made from recycled, non toxic materials. Plus, it’s quite fun trying to guess what it once used to be!
Our Cover Story Collection features a wide range of regenerated yarns, our Ellison sofa is pictured here in Spirit Pebble. To explore our full collection, click here.
